Relay for Life!

The 1st Annual Relay for Life was last Friday, and it is already the largest college relay in Texas, Whoop! We raised well over $100,000 for it. Out team had a blast with a very successful on-site fundraiser. We grilled shish-kabobs, and made mixed frozen non-alcoholic margaritas. Our decoration crew did a great job on the temporarily tight budget they had before getting a much needed last minute donation. The food was delicious and there was a constant line from opening ceremonies all the way to the luminary ceremony. It was very humid and warm the whole night until around 0300 when it just got cold and started to rain a little. The rain didn't last long though, and certainly didn't ruin my fun. Of course by that time most of the team was crashed out in a sleeping bag somewhere. The whole team clocked about 30miles on the track, walking most of it.

I got to help judge the Miss Relay Pageant at about 0430, which was rediculous!!! Keep in mind that this is a bunch of guys from different teams dressed up as women. They had a formal section, talent show and cancer question. During the talent show, one of the guys decided to do some kind of "seductive dance" and at one point came up and started giving me some "extra attention". Let's just say that afterwards I felt like I needed a shower, haha!

Everyone was ready to get out of there at 0700 when they had closing ceremonies. We broke down our site, went back to the dorms, showered, then I went straight to sleep for the rest of the afternoon. Getting ready for this thing was very stressful, but I'm looking forward to doing it again next year now that I know what it will require.

It looks like everyone had fun. I saw some of the Seniors wearing their boots. Maybe next year you can run an ultra in yours. I bet that hasn't been done.
