I wanna breathe that fire again

Eastgate Run
6.3 miles
8 minute pace

I did this run at 0400 and it 0530 now. I decided to take a break from studying for the night, but didn't want to go to sleep so I laced up and did the run I was gonna have to do sometime today anyhow. It's a cool 52 degree outside and it felt great!

Something took me over about 1 mile into the run and carried me all the way to the end. A feeling I haven't felt in a while. Just this desire to focus everything into my legs and run my ass off. This "eastgate run" has a few tough hills in it. Around Dominik St. and George Bush Pkwy during the last half of the run especially. I felt like I was the king of the road at this obscure hour and acted as such, running in the middle of all the streets. My legs seemed to be cooperating with what my mind wanted (not usually the case). I felt determined to push myself harder than I have in a long time, "I wanna breathe that fire again." I thought to myself as my lungs started working harder and harder. Oh I was breathing fire; the fire in my lungs from sucking in the cold air as I picked up the pace on the hills. I felt like a freight train throwing my arms back and forth trying to keep momentum up the hill. Once at the top, I looked over my shoulder at the 3ooyds of incline, "You got nothin' on me hill!"

I also started doing something else I haven't done in an even longer time. I started screaming the lyrics to the songs on my Ipod. As much as I could anyway, between gasping for air.

"WHEN ALL YOU'VE GOT TO KEEP IS STRONG,
MOVE ALONG MOVE MOVE ALONG LIKE I KNOW YOU DO!
AND EVEN WHEN YOUR HOPE IS GONE,
MOVE ALONG MOVE ALONG JUST TO MAKE IT THROUGH!"

I finished the home stretch of the run thinking I might puke, but loving it! It felt good to push myself for speed on my moderate distance run again. I don't know what came over me on the run, but I'm gonna chase that feeling.

i think it's too dangerous to run alone at 4:00 am in the morning, i mean there is no one in the streets, but the feeling must be good, i'll try it someday.
